Fashioning A People - Intro
FASHIONING
The book of Exodus is a powerful narrative about God rescuing His people from brutal oppression and slavery in Egypt. But more than just a story of deliverance from something, Exodus is about what God has delivered His people for. Their freedom wasn't granted so they could simply drift without direction—it was given so they could embrace the calling God had placed on them: to be His representatives in the world. In Exodus 19, God says to them, “You will be my treasured possession out of all the nations... you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (19:5–6). Their freedom came with a purpose
Many of us understand that we’ve been set free in Christ—freed from sin, death, and judgment by His grace. But have we paused to ask: What have we been freed for? As individuals and as a community, what is our freedom meant to lead us into? The church isn’t meant to be a holding place for the redeemed to simply celebrate their salvation. It’s meant to be a living, breathing expression of God’s purpose—a community called to a holy mission in the world. As we journey through the book of Exodus, we begin to see how God doesn’t just rescue—He reshapes. He fashions us into His people for His purpose.
At Cornerstone we are experiencing a time of growth, renewal, and anticipation as we prepare to worship in a new sanctuary—we desire to remain faithful to the path God has set before us. May we embrace the freedom and redemption we've been given, not for our own lives, but for the life of the world He loves.
